The Apex Legends Global Series finals(ALGS) have been indefinitely delayed after a hacking event disrupted the competition, compromising the gameplay of two renowned players, Genburton from DarkZero and ImperialHal from Team SoloMid, during their live-streamed matches on Twitch. In a shocking turn, Genburton’s session was taken over, activating a wallhack cheat, while ImperialHal’s game was manipulated to use an aimbot, both cheats significantly undermining the game’s fairness.

The sabotage was broadcasted live, as the players’ avatars were controlled against their will, leading to the reset of the rounds but ultimately to the abandonment of the match following the round tampered with by aimbot intervention. The hacker boasted of their intrusion in the game’s chat, prompting the organizers to halt the North American finals to preserve the tournament’s integrity.
ALGS organizers announced the postponement on X (formerly Twitter), promising to update participants and fans soon. Meanwhile, the Anti-Cheat Police Department highlighted a serious vulnerability in the game’s anti-cheat software, an RCE exploit, which could have been the hackers’ gateway. This discovery has raised alarms about the security of not only Apex Legends but also other games using the same anti-cheat system, urging a halt in gameplay until the issue is resolved. The identity and motives of the attackers remain under investigation.
